Find out why tick prevention for dogs is so important – and why a dog tick collar is one of the best options around

Ticks are much more than just annoying little parasites – they can also cause serious health problems. A casual run through the long grass can result in one or more of these arachnids attaching and feeding on your dog, so it’s important to make sure you’ve given your canine companion the best protection possible.

Dogs can come into contact with ticks quite easily. These parasites often live in long grasses in parks and woodlands, and grabbing onto the coat of passing animals as they brush through the grass. After finding the right spot to bite, they can stay attached to their victim for days. However, ticks can begin to pass on certain diseases, like ehrlichiosis, within a few hours after attachment, which is why it’s incredibly important to stop the tick from biting your dog in the first place.

Why use a dog tick collar?

There are several different ways of combating ticks, including spot-on treatments and tablets, but Seresto flea and tick collars are one of the best choices for several reasons. Because the collars remain effective for so long, you don't need to worry about treating your pet frequently. Seresto is also waterproof and odourless, which means you can put it on and forget about it, safe in the knowledge that you've done your best to prevent your dog from coming home with any nasty surprises (aside from the usual burrs, twigs and mud, stuck in his fur of course).

How does the Seresto collar for dogs work?

Seresto flea and tick collars contain two active ingredients (imidacloprid and flumethrin). The collar continuously releases a controlled dose of both, remaining effective for up to eight months. Unlike other treatments that work by releasing a pesticide into your dog’s blood, the ingredients in Seresto are distributed externally, killing and repelling ticks through simple contact – which means they don’t have to bite your dog to be affected.

Seresto is also available for cats, protecting them from ticks they may pick up while out hunting in the garden or even from any intruders your dog might bring home from the park.
